PINTLE [by Ste Murray]
n,

A pin or a bolt on which another part pivots
A pivot for both current and potential park uses, the pavilion holds onto the centre of Mountjoy Square, pinwheeling facilities for the local community within and around it. It piroettes as people pass, as they proceed towards, and as they progress around inside.

History reveals an original proposition for St. George’s Church at the Centre of the Park. Current Activities of the park are rehoused in a focal point of overlapping, dispersing volumes. Trees are retained + replanted. The centre becomes a pinwheel for the community around it. Radiating playspaces are created around the middle hinge. It sits into the layers of the land, affording seclusion + security. It pushes up out of the ground, affording views of home + place.

‘Inspired by the past. Informed by the present.’

“These photographs of Tuam are taken from the same vantage point as those from about 100 years ago. One photograoh was taken every hour over the course of the day. The resulting images are overlaid to create a singe layered image; capturing the life of people in a space over time.”

I took these images this time last year, a pivotal moment that kick-started my design thesis in architecture. Since then they have been exhibited at Claremorris Open Exhibition.

They are now looking for a new place to call home.

“We are weighed down, every moment, by the conception and the sensation of Time. And there are but two means of escaping and forgetting this nightmare: pleasure and work. Pleasure consumes us. Work strengthens us. Let us choose.”
~ Charles Baudelaire
